Monday... Again

So this weekend was delightfully lazy. Sunday consisted of pool time, sleeping and ended with watching the Pursuit of Happyness. Except for the greatest thing happened! I got my wedding pictures back! They will be unveiled soon :) Today was a good day, it kinda flew by. I was doing Delphi training which is a program we use to book clients. I got to sit at my desk and I even helped 2 guests find the internet kiosks. My desk is awesome and it has a great view. I am not in a cubicle and when we don't have groups it is very quiet. The only issue is that my desk is invested with bugs! Little spiders. I finally had to email engineering to ask them to send some sort of bug spray or something. I am home now and I feel like they are crawling all over me! GROSS! On the bright side I have a voicemail (which the front desk said they had already received calls for me?!? Weird!), I am getting a business card, a blackberry, and a master key! I just love it all Anyway tomorrow I have to be at work...

Taco Thursday until Now

Image
So I have been a little behind with my blogging, simply because I have been so tired. I am working on getting more energy so that I will be able to post blogs at night :) This working thing is tough! Thursday I had to be at work at 9 am. It was my first real work day. I have to wear suits which is fine with me but the shoes are where I have problems. I like to wear heels and considering I have about 30 pairs of heels I have more than enough to accommodate my suits. The problem comes in when I found out how much running around my position required. My life is like Auburn Tiger Night's except for everyday we have an event, and if there is no event just think of it as me in the planning process for Tiger Nights. I know that only a few people can appreciate that analogy but trust me its the best way to describe it! All that to say that I think I am going to enjoy my job very much I can't wait to get started for real. Thursday night was our first Taco Thursday, which was delicious ...

A Treasure Hunt

Image
Today was my last day of formal orientation. It was actually a lot of fun, it brought me back to my Camp War Eagle days. We had skits and contests like who could build the tallest tower as well as jeopardy! A word about jeopardy is that it got intense to the point where I think we were all so competitive it wasn't fun any more. With all that said my team won and as a prize I got Mandarin Oriental Dominos, which is perfect because Zach and I love games. So I have been a little moody I think it is mostly because I am not used to getting up early and working all day. I know I will adjust but I don't like feeling like I am always on edge. Of course I have the best husband who yesterday when I got home had cleaned the entire apartment. It is so nice that we are both trying so hard to have a harmonious home and it makes being here so much like a nice retreat as oppose to my previous apartment which was much more stressful (I am not blaming I am not the cleanest person). So after orie...

Just Another Manic Monday...

Image
Today was my first day of orientation at the Mandarin Oriental Miami. It was a long day of company policy and mission and visions, but despite that I like the people and I am excited about working for the company. We have 3 days of orientation so I will let you know how it goes. Good news I passed the drug test! So not much to say tonight, I made turkey chili and I talked to my mommy which was great! I will post more when something interesting happens. Now going to watch Rachel Zoe! New season AHHH... Thanks for reading!

We Never Watch TV, well I Mean we Watch it all the Time!

Well here's the recap of this weekend! I went to pick up Hannah and Bobby from the Fort Lauderdale airport yesterday at around 12:30 and I am happy to report that I drove there and back and we made it back alive. We ate lunch with Reggie and Debbie and some of their friends who work at the church down here, which is the whole reason they are here. It was a good lunch and a few funny moments, like when I called Zach my husband and everyone freaked out, and Reg said I should just call him my live in boyfriend who I sleep with! Ha funny if you know Reg. Last night we went out to eat at a place called Yard House in this super nice shopping center called Merrick Park. We waited about 2 hours to eat which was okay because we weren't really very hungary yet. We had a few drinks at the overly crowded bar. I had heard such great things about this place but to me the bartenders and waitresses thought they were a big deal, so in return could treat customers like crap. It was annoying and...

Career. Check!

Image
So the news is: I GOT A JOB!! It is pretty much official pending me passing my drug test and background check. If all that goes well then I will be officially employed and in orientation Monday. Once official I will tell you all about it. It's funny because as I was telling my best friend C.C. about it she was like you made your deadline! Which is true but still funny that I had but a deadline on it. Things move quickly around here, as my friend Hans says! Zach took me to the place where you pee in a cup: or get a drug test. It was pretty standard, but why is that I have to pee all the time and then the time when it matters I don't have to? These are the mysteries of the world and I even drank an entire bottle of water on the way there. But it all came out okay. Getting there was much more interesting any way because it was an interesting part of town, including the building that had huge black letters "Cash for Blood Donations" and about 10 people standing outside. ...

Blueberry Muffins

Image
Today was another day of a lot of nothing. I always have mixed emotions about these days. One I love that I have no responsibilities and can make blueberry muffins on a whim. But then reality crushes back down on me. I need a job I need to be making money and then all the fear and frustration comes back. So I try to keep myself useful. Today by cleaning the closet, making muffins, and doing laundry. That way I feel like at least I am being a productive member of this household. And it is a good chance to get things done that I may not have time to do if I had a full time job, like thank-you notes and scrap booking! Zach got home around 4; Wednesday is one of his long days at school. He was pleasantly surprised by the muffins, but the realization that I am making food for 10 people and there are only 2 of us hit me! I also realized that I am turning more and more into a homebody I really don't mind not leaving the house. Well I decided to make a Mexican Chicken dish I found on someo...

A Whirlwind!

Image
Oh my goodness today was crazy, but great! I had 2 interviews today. One of them went amazing! And the position would be absolutely perfect. I am not going to tell anymore because I do not want to jinx it! All I will say is I am so thankful for the millions of interviews I sat in and did in college because it helped a lot... But I will keep you updated on the career front:) After my interviews Zach and I decided to make the 40 minute drive to Brand Smart and Wal-Mart, because we had gift cards to both and we still needed some storage for the closet, our last hurdle! So we went first to Brand Smart and it was a little sketchy, and I hate that place anyway because I feel like as soon as you walk in the whole store is screaming at you "OVER CONSUME!!" anyone who has been there knows what I mean all the signs are neon colors and the whole store is way to packed. And you just feel like the people in there are maxing out their credit cards on things they don't need. Anyway we h...

A Good Night

Image
Today ended up being a great day. My aggressive job search landed me 2 interviews tomorrow. I can hardly believe it. I have to get some stuff done for that but as for my to-do list 90% done. Once Zach got home we kept doing some house work, we are so close to having everything in it's place. I also made some banana bread from the recipe box of Audrey's it was SOO good! I was suprised how easy it was to make, and I got to use my Kitchen Aid Mixer for the first time. I took a little nap while Zach was reading for class. At around 7:45 I got up and Zach and I made dinner together. We made mini hamburgers mac and cheese and baked beans it was like a cook out. I wanted to try to walk to my interviews tomorrow and Zach and I wanted to make some homemade ice cream with this sweet kitchen aid attachment. So we set out to find the hotels for tomorrow and then the grocery store. The first hotel was easy enough to find and then we started for the second one. Unfortunately we walked for ab...

Aggressive Job Search

Well it is Monday morning and instead of going to work. I am instead looking for work. I have been at it for 2 and a half hours. I hope that some of my efforts pay off (literally) soon! I have been searching for jobs all summer but it has been a little half-hearted. Now that I am in Miami I feel as if I have a better chance for success. I just want to do something I love. Is that so much to ask? Along with job hunting I have a to-do list a mile long. As is usually true with me. I will let you in on what I need to get done today! Organize Closet (all of our clothes are still in boxes!) Make some business calls E-mail a few people Go to the bank Pick up key fob for building Plan dinner A few things for Lauren's wedding (gift, checklist, invites) Begin thank-you cards for wedding gifts Order some pictures online Make banana bread for breakfast tomorrow Well even though it looks overwhelming in my mind it would be much more overwhelming to have have a to-do list at all. I also need to ...

Emily Dickens Moves to Miami

Image
Well this is my first post and I have a lot to say! My name is Emily Dickens and I have a lot going on in my life. I just got married to the love of my life Zach Dickens on 8.7.09. We got married at the Atlanta History Center in Georgia. My wedding was everything I could hope for and more. I was surrounded by my closest friends and family. It truly was the best day of my life. After the wedding my husband and I went on a fabulous honeymoon in Key West. We spent a long weekend in Key West during their famous lobsterfest. The streets were full of people and tents with fresh lobster and the town was alive. It was a lot of fun. When the honeymoon was over we drove to our new home in Miami, FL. My husband will be attending the University of Miami Law School this year and that is what brought us down here. We live in a community called Brickell and it really is amazing. We walk to the grocery store and take the metro to any place we need to go. It is a wonderful new experience for me to live...
