Taco Thursday until Now

So I have been a little behind with my blogging, simply because I have been so tired. I am working on getting more energy so that I will be able to post blogs at night :) This working thing is tough!

Thursday I had to be at work at 9 am. It was my first real work day. I have to wear suits which is fine with me but the shoes are where I have problems. I like to wear heels and considering I have about 30 pairs of heels I have more than enough to accommodate my suits. The problem comes in when I found out how much running around my position required. My life is like Auburn Tiger Night's except for everyday we have an event, and if there is no event just think of it as me in the planning process for Tiger Nights. I know that only a few people can appreciate that analogy but trust me its the best way to describe it! All that to say that I think I am going to enjoy my job very much I can't wait to get started for real.

Thursday night was our first Taco Thursday, which was delicious and then I fell asleep on the couch at 9 pm. I am almost too ashamed to admit that but it is true. Then off to work on Friday morning, my day was packed with back to back meetings, to learn about the hotel and my job and the relationships I will have with different departments. I learned some interesting things and I am excited for you all to learn more about Mandarin Oriental and what an awesome company it is.

Friday when I got home Zach was in a coma, well kinda! Fridays are his longest days and he was just staring at the TV. We decided to go eat somewhere across the street that we haven't eaten before. We went to Balans and it was so-so nothing great probably wouldn't go back for food. Then we came home and watched some TV then went to bed at 10... Lame I know but we were both SOO tired. But before we leave Friday I am going to let Zach tell you a funny story of something that happened to him on the metro!

Zach's Story:
After walking the half mile, and the 1500 steps it takes to get to the metro station the southbound train arrives. Two hispanic ladies enter the train in front of me gaze to the right and then divert quickly to the left to find a seat on the busy train. I followed unknowingly onto the train and made my way to the first available seat on the right side of the train. Sitting diagonally from me is a twenty something man with long black jean shorts, a long black tee shirt, black shoes and black socks on. His hair was jet black and growing quickly into a tangle of dreads. He immediately turn to me mumbling something with a wry smile. I, with my headphones in pretended I didn't hear him. He continued, repeatedly asking me if I was talking on the phone and snickering in between the statements.

At this point, I understood why the ladies in front of me quickly scampered to the left side of the train. After a few minutes of him attempted to talk to me about his life, and my pretending to not hear him I struggled to find places to look around without gazing at him. Then suddenly, he arose from his seat, grabbed the photo id that was attached to a lanyard around his neck and started to proclaim, "I work for the government!" to the entire train. A few eyes glanced over, but most people still half asleep at 7am disregarded his shouts. He then proceeded to exit his seating vicinity and ran to the end of the train cab laughing. He quickly gazed to the next cab, held up his id and again proclaimed "I work for the government!" and started laughing hysterically. He then high stepped his way about 30 yards to the opposite end of the train screaming the same strange claim. He reached the other end of cab, peered again through the window and again laughed hysterically. He now had the full attention of the train cab. I, personally was stunned, unable to decide if I should laugh at this unique scene or feel bad for the poor guy.

After running back and forth a few times a female security guard on her way to work attempted to extend her jurisdiction to the metro unsuccessfully trying to get the deranged man to sit down. Unfortunately for me the metro reached the University station just as he ran to the opposite end of the cab, sat down, and starting conversing with another unsuspecting passenger.

That is my story of the "government worker" on the metro at 7am on a Friday in Miami. Now back to Emily's blog.

This morning we woke up at around 10. We ate breakfast and lunch and then decided that we wanted to go to the pool. We got down there around 12:15 and around 12:45 I look to my left and I see a huge black cloud looming overhead. Ugh I just wanted to lay out and now our pool time is going to be ruined. I hoped it would just pass over so when it started raining I sat in a cabana and unsuccessfully tried to stay dry. It started POURING I jumped in the pool with Zach which reminded me of my days at my grandmother's pool with my cousins, swimming in the rain. But unfortunately it was raining so hard it kinda hurt. So we ran upstairs to get out of the rain.
After a few hours we went to the grocery store because I had been watching a lot of cooking shows so I was in the cooking mood! I decided on spaghetti with homemade sauce and meatballs with bruschetta for an appetizer. So we made the list of things we needed and walked over to Publix. As we were leaving this guy on a bike stopped us and told us he was homeless and his girlfriend was pregnant. So I told him we didn't have any money but offered him some of our loaf of bread we had bought for the bruschetta. This to me is ironic to 2 ways, one I literally just told my mother today that we didn't have homeless people around our house (she was concerned because I walk to work in the mornings) and 2 because we gave him bread I felt very much like we were in a bible story. (thats not really the correct use of the word ironic but you get my point)

We made it home and started cooking. Zach and I were a team working together to get it all done, because it was a lot to do and I wanted to make peanut butter cookies and banana bread for breakfast this week. So it took us about an hour but the spaghetti and meatballs turned out lovely and then we had the peanut butter cookie batter made and put it in the fridge.

Dinner was great! Zach began watching the Falcon's game and I wanted to get to work on the cookies. The only problem was that the oven was locked and none of the buttons would work. We looked online to see what the problem was but nothing we tried worked. Finally Zach had a great idea and opened up the fuse box and restarted the oven and it worked. Which is great because now we have TONS of baked goods. So if anyone wants any just leave your address and I will mail you some cookies :) I cook like we have a family of 10 which is probably not great for our waist line.
Well after the game we are going to watch Coraline, then bed time.

Thanks for reading!
