Grandma Elsie
I know I have been absent for a couple of weeks but I am back and ready for show and tell. I have a lot to catch you up on but honestly I will most likely do that this weekend.
Today I want to post about my Great Grandmother who just celebrated her 98th Birthday! Amazing in so many ways. She lives in Elijay GA on the same land for the past 75 years. She had 8 children, named them all names starting with the letter H. She has been through a lot, and has experienced parts of our history that only a few others can share in common with her. Her memory is pretty good and when you least expect it she tells a story of her past that would blow you away.
She was born in 1912 and in her lifetime she has experienced just a few things like...
1. Sinking of the Titanic, Balkan wars, 1912.
2. Electric refrigerator, first moving assembly line created by Ford, 19132.
3. Treaty of Versailles, 1919.
4. Prohibition began in the U.S., U.S. women get the vote. 1920.
5. TV invented, Lindbergh crosses the Atlantic, 1927.
6. U.S. Stock Market crash, 1929.
7. Flash bulb for photography introduced, 1930.
8. Empire State Building opened, 1931.
9. Hitler becomes Chancellor of Germany, Dachau prison camp open for business, Roosevelt's "New Deal" program, End of U.S.
10. Hitler rejects Treaty of Versailles, U.S. Social Security act created, 1935.
11. Penicillin brought out for use in humans,1941.
And this only gets us to 1941- to Mention both World Wars, the 50's and the 70's. She has been apart of so many generations. And sadly she outlived a lot of the most important people in her life. Including a lot of her own Children and their spouses.
I just wanted to post to her! It is truly inspirational to think that a person can be around for so long and has seen so much, but defiantly in a different way than we "see" things today. I have been around the world and I hope to get to see a lot more things in my life. But I will never experience all the history changing things that she has in her 98 years!
Here a picture from her Birthday Party! Thanks for reading
p.s. My very creative Mother made that Cake!!
Loves.
